Course Description: 

This course emphasizes intensive reading techniques and the application of these techniques to a variety of texts. This comprehensive reading program enhances reading skills, improves comprehension, expands vocabulary, and provides strategies for managing different types of reading materials.

Course Objectives:

This course aims at achieving the following goal:

- To improve students’ reading skills and strategies by engaging them effectively in reading different text genres.

Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students are expected to be able to: 

- read and understand most of their textbook;

- use most of the new vocabulary items that they have been exposed to during the course meaningfully;

- use the reading strategies e.g., guessing the meaning of unfamiliar words, dealing with long complex sentences…etc. effectively;

- use reading techniques e.g., scanning, skimming, in their daily readings.  

- read and present a summary of two articles;   

- use English dictionaries effectively;

- implement critical reading techniques.
